How to Join the IBNS?

If you have decided to join the Society, you are on the right track. You only need to complete a few simple steps, which I will describe in detail so that you have no questions.

1. Read and Agree to the IBNS Code of Ethics

In short, the Code states that members must not share confidential information outside the Society and must honor all agreements and contracts made within it. You must agree not to buy or sell numismatic items with questionable ownership, and not to present any forgeries, copies, or reproductions as genuine.

The Code of Ethics also prohibits cleaning, washing, pressing, or chemically treating banknotes in an attempt to alter their natural condition or appearance. Additionally, you are required to respond promptly to official communications from the IBNS.

  • GROUP ($36 per year) – for banks, museums, archives, schools, companies, and organizations
  • JUNIOR ($18 per year) – for children under 18 (with parental or guardian consent)
  • FAMILY ($36 per year) – for families, including husband, wife, and their minor children

3. Fill Out the Application Form

The form is available here:

At first glance, it may look long, but only a few fields are mandatory (marked in bold), and the questions are simple. I will highlight a few that I consider important:

  • Given Name & Family Name: take a moment to check your passport and copy the correct spelling.
  • Address Line: write it in English, starting with the apartment or house number, then the street, city, postal code, region, and country. The address must be accurate—make sure you can receive IBNS mail there.
  • Banknote Collecting Interests: describe in detail what you collect, such as specific countries, regions, or themes (e.g., Queen Elizabeth II, hyperinflation, specimens, flora and fauna). These keywords help other collectors find you.
  • Privacy Level: specify which of your details may be made public and which should remain private.

4. Payment

Payment is made via PayPal and only for one year at a time. The payment is completed directly on the website. If you have never used PayPal before, you can register, link any Ukrainian bank card, and the fee will be charged from it.

5. Application Processing

Your application will be processed within up to one week. You will then receive a welcome email containing your membership number and login credentials for the members-only section of the website and the forum. Congratulations—you are now a member of the global community of collectors!

6. Membership Pack Delivery

About a month later, a membership package will arrive at your postal address (ID card, lapel pin, directory, the latest journal, etc.).

7. Enjoy Your Membership

For an entire year, you can enjoy all membership benefits and receive journals by mail.

8. Renewal Reminder

After 11 months, you will receive a reminder inviting you to renew your membership. If you choose not to renew, simply ignore the message—your profile will be deactivated, and no one will pressure you to stay.
